Hey, gang, Kevin.
00:00:14 Kevin
Life 22 and it is a beautiful day.
00:00:19 Kevin
It is a beautiful day and we are giving you.
00:00:23 Kevin
Your weekly.
00:00:23 Kevin
I guess it wouldn't.
00:00:24 Kevin
Just be a weekly update, right?
00:00:28 Kevin
We're so trying to do one of these everyday.
00:00:29 Kevin
It's, you know, keeping you up on news and other things like that, trying to give you a couple reels a day, things like.
00:00:38 Kevin
So and satiate all the listeners out there.
00:00:44 Kevin
Umm, so today's episode essentially is gonna be on some recent updates on the Alderman races for the city of Olean.
00:00:52 Kevin
This is more political in nature.
00:00:55 Kevin
And hopefully we'll give you, we'll do some deep dives and some breakdowns into other political and local topics throughout the week today.
00:01:05 Kevin
I want to.
00:01:08 Kevin
You know, kind of make the.
00:01:09 Kevin
I don't know if a lot of people have, but so in the previous episode on the election season starting for 2025, we discussed the mayor's race in depth.
00:01:22 Kevin
And.
00:01:22 Kevin
Then, while we let all those candidates go door to door and pass their petitions, I figured we focus on the Alderman races and the Alderman races have kind of been.
00:01:33 Kevin
Shall we say, not really talked about like it's, you know, there might have been a news article from I think the one of the one of the stations.
00:01:47 Kevin
Oh, from one of the stations, one of the one of the local newspapers discussed the Alderman races.
00:01:54 Kevin
And at the time, there hadn't been a, so there was word 246 and seven are up this year, so.
00:02:01 Kevin
As of right now, I believe we are still working seven backwards.
00:02:05 Kevin
Still, Dave Anastasia, Democratic incumbent from, or Democrats incumbent from.
00:02:12 Kevin
Ward 7 and I don't believe the Republicans have put out anybody.
00:02:17 Kevin
Ward Ward 6 is still the independent.
00:02:23 Kevin
Incumbent Vernon Robinson, junior and.
00:02:28 Kevin
Then you have Ward 4, which is still the Democrat incumbent. Sonia McCall and I don't believe the Republicans have put one in her, put up a a competitor in her ward and there hasn't been any grumblings about any.
00:02:42 Kevin
Any non party affiliates a lot of times you get those notes coming out of the woodwork and I want to run and.
00:02:51 Kevin
Ward 4 has a tendency to do that.
00:02:53 Kevin
Six typically is a highly contested ward.
00:02:56 Kevin
It has in the past.
00:02:58 Kevin
But not not as of the last couple.
00:03:02 Kevin
I mean, the last time the last race in six.
00:03:06 Kevin
We had Nick Peterson.
00:03:07 Kevin
I don't know if he's coming out of the woodwork again, this time for another rematch.
00:03:12 Kevin
Believe this would be his third time if he did come out.
00:03:17 Kevin
And then.
00:03:19 Kevin
And then Ward two, Ward two had no contenders from either side up until this past weekend, and this past weekend we had a really good one come out. Now I know that there's, I know there was. I got a. So Alderman Jason Panis is no longer.
00:03:34 Kevin
Well, he'll ride out the rest of his term. And so as of December 31st of 2025, he will be the Alderman.
00:03:41 Kevin
Then after that.
00:03:42 Kevin
He will.
00:03:43 Kevin
He will no longer be that old. Be that be the Alderman for that ward, as he's just going to allow his term to retire, expire and so.
00:03:55 Kevin
I got a call from.
00:03:56 Kevin
He had somebody looking for how to, you know, 'cause, I'm the information base, right?
00:04:03 Kevin
People call me all the time.
00:04:04 Kevin
Do I run for Alderman?
00:04:05 Kevin
Right. You know, well, this person didn't have a party affiliation, so they would start passing petitions after.
00:04:12 Kevin
All the designated parties had passed their petitions and typically no PS are a little bit more difficult 'cause you have to get more signatures.
00:04:20 Kevin
A lot more people that aren't registered to a party.
00:04:24 Kevin
And so a lot of times they have a greater encumbrance of signatures.
00:04:28 Kevin
Have to attain so.
00:04:32 Kevin
Over the weekend I got AI got word that.
00:04:38 Kevin
Joe Kerry threw his hat in the ring and Joe's a good friend of mine and I think he would be a great candidate for the job.
00:04:45 Kevin
Believe he is a registered Republican. When I spoke to him over the weekend, he was.
00:04:51 Kevin
In the process of writing his his platform and going to be circulating with all the papers and stuff like that so.
00:05:02 Kevin
But.
00:05:04 Kevin
You know, and then obviously he's gonna have to go get his petitions and start passing just like everybody.
00:05:08 Kevin
And it's one of those, you know, the Alderman races are I wanna. I wanna say they're not like easy to pass petitions. But like I mean if you're the District Attorney for example, right. You're a county wide race.
00:05:20 Kevin
You have to actually pass like you have to get like like 2000 signatures and it may be way less than that, but they always tell you because if somebody else got the same signature or.
00:05:31 Kevin
Have you?
00:05:32 Kevin
Like they can just throw it out, which is kind of, which is kind of.
00:05:36 Kevin
It's not dumb, it's just it is what it is. So like and a lot of times when you go and I've done this for years, if you go door to door and somebody signs your petition a lot of times they don't even think that like they can't sign.
00:05:47 Kevin
Than one they don't know the rules, and that's one of those rules that, like, are you gonna go to everybody's house and like, if you start naming off all the rules, get the hell out of here. You just inundating me with stupid stuff that I.
00:05:57 Kevin
And yeah, but what happens is you get to that one where it's like, if you sign anybody else's petition and then after, like, I've had people like, hey, will you sign my petition?
00:06:07 Kevin
They sign it and they're like, oh, yeah, you're the second petition I've had to like. You already signed somebody else's, like, man like.
00:06:16 Kevin
You know it's it's one of those.
00:06:17 Kevin
One of those things, but.
00:06:19 Kevin
You go to the mayor's race. I believe it's 160 for the Republicans that they need this.
00:06:24 Kevin
Something along those lines, and so to be safe, to make sure that nobody questions your 'cause if you have like 20 extra signatures on 120, they're going to pick through them.
00:06:33 Kevin
Somebody on the other side, one of the people battling against you, they are going to pick through yours to try to get you thrown off because by the time that.
00:06:40 Kevin
Through them, it's already too late for you to.
00:06:42 Kevin
So if they knock you out by you being short 2 signatures like you're done, you're out of the race.
00:06:48 Kevin
That's.
00:06:49 Kevin
They use these.
00:06:51 Kevin
Like spell check, grammatical type issues.
00:06:55 Kevin
Like.
00:06:57 Kevin
You know, sometimes our legal system gets stuck in the.
00:07:01 Kevin
A little bit.
00:07:02 Kevin
Well, we all have to play fair and it's like.
00:07:04 Kevin
Well, yeah. But I mean, you guys are like throwing somebody out of the race because they didn't.
00:07:07 Kevin
Had a comma next to their name.
00:07:10 Kevin
We can like, OK well, but yeah, that's the founding fathers intended that like.
00:07:15 Kevin
Go figure. Right well so.
00:07:19 Kevin
We go through and in in the wards.
00:07:24 Kevin
I believe in like you know your average.
00:07:26 Kevin
You need to get like 50 signatures and that's that's a safe number.
00:07:30 Kevin
So you're you usually need anywhere between like 20 and 30 signatures and to be safe for such a small number like that, you just double it.
00:07:37 Kevin
Just kind of say, alright, I got to get like, you know, 50-60 signatures and I'll be good.
00:07:42 Kevin
And a lot of times you are and it 60 signatures.
00:07:45 Kevin
It seems daunting at first.
00:07:48 Kevin
It ain't hard.
00:07:49 Kevin
It isn't hard.
00:07:51 Kevin
I mean, I usually get 100 signatures with my eyes closed just because I know the wards.
00:07:55 Kevin
I know all the places I know registered voters from both sides.
00:07:58 Kevin
I've had to pass petitions. I've had Alderman that were out of town, that I would go and, you know, like, hey, man.
00:08:04 Kevin
I'm. I'm actually out of town.
00:08:05 Kevin
Traveling. Whatever.
00:08:06 Kevin
Can you go and pass petitions on my?
00:08:09 Kevin
Like yeah, not a problem. Whether it's Republican or.
00:08:12 Kevin
Like it's when you start getting into the weeds of like, local, small town politics is less about National Party and more about more about.
00:08:23 Kevin
Like, were people sick? 'cause you get some people that are just like my parents were always Democrats and then they're.
00:08:28 Kevin
But it's like if you watch how they vote. If you hear how they talk, you see them at church, you know what I mean?
00:08:33 Kevin
Like man like, is this person really a Democrat? Or you know what I mean?
00:08:36 Kevin
They.
00:08:37 Kevin
It's they don't follow the National Party.
00:08:40 Kevin
Line they you know, and then there's a lot of Republicans that do.
00:08:42 Kevin
Same.
00:08:43 Kevin
You're like, who are you, a Republican?
00:08:45 Kevin
You know, you just shake your head at some of these people.
00:08:50 Kevin
But yeah, and then also obviously you know, COVID did a number on.
00:08:54 Kevin
So I'm a notary, and so you know, I can go door to door for other other parties. 'cause when you're passing petitions, you have to be a member of that party or you have to.
00:09:05 Kevin
Be in. You have to the the signature has to be in the presence of a notary public. Which?
00:09:12 Kevin
I hope that the problem is that post COVID with all of the virtual signatures and notary stuff.
00:09:21 Kevin
And then, you know, they try to, like, rule out the fact that people could be deceitful.
00:09:26 Kevin
So they say.
00:09:27 Kevin
Well, you need to have a book and the book has to be of every signature post this date. And so anytime you notarize something, it has to be.
00:09:34 Kevin
Has to be cross referenceable with the notary book that you carry.
00:09:39 Kevin
So if you notarize someone's thing a lot, like you have to keep along.
00:09:43 Kevin
Who was?
00:09:43 Kevin
What was their ID? Do you know them personally?
00:09:46 Kevin
You seen their ID?
00:09:47 Kevin
Do you know who they?
00:09:48 Kevin
So it makes passing petitions if you're not.
00:09:51 Kevin
A lot more cumbersome so.
00:09:53 Kevin
This gives you a little insight, I'm.
00:09:55 Kevin
Most.
00:09:55 Kevin
You are like this is boring as ****.
00:09:57 Kevin
But those are just the different.
00:10:00 Kevin
So you know we, you know, I applaud Joe for stepping up.
00:10:03 Kevin
Know Ward 2 is.
00:10:08 Kevin
From what I you know, from what I've seen in the city like you know, ever since I've been in politics, it's always been a a Republican ward.
00:10:15 Kevin
And so I believe Joe was registered Republican and.
00:10:20 Kevin
Think Joe would do a good job.
00:10:21 Kevin
Is.
00:10:22 Kevin
Joe is very qualified.
00:10:24 Kevin
He's always helping out the communities.
00:10:27 Kevin
He's very involved in the the VFW.
00:10:30 Kevin
Know the American Legion.
00:10:32 Kevin
He's going to yell at me. 'cause. It's American Legion, not the.
00:10:35 Kevin
Or he's going to help me because I think it's now the American Legion.
00:10:38 Kevin
Probably the VFW.
00:10:40 Kevin
But and then most people know Joe's Joe's wife. Claudia tarde. She's she's a fan favorite. A lot of people.
00:10:46 Kevin
Lot of people love Claudia.
00:10:50 Kevin
Unless you're a lawyer, a lot of a lot of lawyers that are on the fence, a lot of lawyers are always on the fence about Realtors.
00:10:56 Kevin
So, like Realtors, hate lawyers, lawyers hate Realtors. And then, you know, you get one lawyer that uses a realtor they love and you get another lawyer that uses a realtor.
00:11:05 Kevin
You know that will refuse to use a realtor because you know they had one bad experience or whatever.
00:11:09 Kevin
But for the most part, my pulse on on things, Claudia is always also a good friend of mine.
00:11:16 Kevin
And she's always.
00:11:17 Kevin
She's always a hoop, so it'll it'll be it'll be good to see umm.
00:11:23 Kevin
It'll be good to see Joe.
00:11:25 Kevin
Hitting the pavement and and knocking on doors and and getting out there and stirring his ward up again.
00:11:31 Kevin
When you you know it it, everybody needs a good stir in sometimes.
00:11:34 Kevin
When your war doesn't have any candidates coming forward.
00:11:36 Kevin
1st, it's like OK, someone's not.
00:11:40 Kevin
Sound pound on some doors and wake people up, you know, and that's kind of remind people that you know, this is still something we have to do and it's it's good to see the Joe's running and I'm sure we'll have more going into tomorrow.
00:11:55 Kevin
I'll try to come up with a nice little excerpt for you guys for tomorrow and keep you posted if anything stirs up in any other wards we and then the mayor's race seems to be pretty. It seemed to cool down a little bit as people go get.
00:12:10 Kevin
Signatures. Right you have. You have Jared out there. You have the incumbent Bill Elio and you have Amy Sherburn.
00:12:16 Kevin
And I did hear grumblings at Amy's signatures were getting past this weekend, I'm sure.
00:12:21 Kevin
I'm sure that's not stopping.
00:12:23 Kevin
I'm sure Bill's people move very quickly and then I'm sure Bill's people were out passing petitions too. Umm.
00:12:30 Kevin
And you know, given that he's the incumbent a lot of times the the ******** door knockers, the people that are out there passing petitions, are usually passing for the incumbent over any newcomers. And then Jared out there, I haven't.
00:12:42 Kevin
Didn't hear any grumblings about his his folks, but most likely a guy like Jared is probably out knocking the doors themselves. So.
00:12:49 Kevin
And I did get the questions asked of all three candidates this weekend.
00:12:53 Kevin
That are normally just sign my petitions.
00:12:56 Kevin
I had one friend of mine's wife.
00:13:00 Kevin
Called, they messaged me was saying, hey, someone's trying to pass this petition.
00:13:03 Kevin
Is this?
00:13:04 Kevin
What about these other two candidates?
00:13:06 Kevin
And you know, obviously she sent the door.
00:13:07 Kevin
Petition. Pass her away because she.
00:13:09 Kevin
I only I only signed Kevins petitions and then not not not because my name would be on them, but any petition that I passed they typically sign because people people trust my judgement when it comes to, you know, signing petitions for people of their party.
00:13:21 Kevin
So, but you know that's it is what it is, I mean.
00:13:26 Kevin
But yeah.
00:13:27 Kevin
I mean, so the mayor's race is going well and I'm sure we'll, we'll. I haven't decided what we're going to talk about tomorrow, but I'll try to give you. I want to give you at least two of these little political updates every week and try to get.
00:13:39 Kevin
Some news and try to do at least two of them a week. I'm trying to do at least one to two guests a month. If I can do more, I will.
00:13:46 Kevin
And I'm trying to as many shorts as I can put out there, not shorts. Like, you know, pants, but shorts, like short cut real videos. The things you would see on on YouTube or on.
00:13:58 Kevin
On tiktok. So for those videos out there and those without you and.
00:14:05 Kevin
Those of you out there in audio land.
00:14:09 Kevin
Just you know, you'll have to get off your audio app to look at the shorts, but.
00:14:16 Kevin
That aside, and actually a little while ago, we just confirmed our one of our guests.
00:14:21 Kevin
Don't know if it'll be our next guest, but she is a fan favorite.
00:14:24 Kevin
Is della.
00:14:25 Kevin
She'll be coming on the show next Tuesday at 4:30.
00:14:29 Kevin
PMI can't guarantee the video will be out by then, but so anytime after that time, unless something catastrophic happens where we have to postpone or something like that, you can expect to see everyone's favorite and lovely lady, Miss Delamore, on the show.
00:14:44 Kevin
Next Tuesday, the 11th, so a week from tomorrow.
00:14:50 Kevin
At 4:30 PM.
00:14:51 Kevin
So other than that guys, I hope you enjoyed this update and we will catch you next time on life 22.
