00:00:08 Kevin
Hey, gang, Kevin here. Live 22 and I don't know how beautiful it is out this morning, but it was beautiful yesterday afternoon.
00:00:16 Kevin
Had the first grill of the season.
00:00:18 Kevin
Man, that was good.
00:00:19 Kevin
Had some beautiful had some beautiful dinner right off the grill.
00:00:25 Kevin
Using our fossil fuels, grilling up some some sausages and some weed.
00:00:29 Kevin
Nothing better on a spring afternoon when spring just breaks and taking a Weiner to the Dome.
00:00:36 Kevin
All right.
00:00:37 Kevin
Well, not a whole ton for you this morning, St.
00:00:40 Kevin
'S day is coming up.
00:00:42 Kevin
I believe it's this coming Monday.
00:00:45 Kevin
I know that there's always events going on.
00:00:47 Kevin
The Hibernians are always always doing.
00:00:51 Kevin
So if you know a member like yours truly, you can get signed in as a guest and go enjoy the festivities there.
00:00:57 Kevin
There's always great things like, you know.
00:01:00 Kevin
Usually someone's playing music and.
00:01:03 Kevin
There's always good time to be.
00:01:05 Kevin
Some Irish bangers, some some shepherd's pie.
00:01:09 Kevin
Know all.
00:01:10 Kevin
All the good, all the good fixings, usually a good adult soda or two and then and then the Irish dancers.
00:01:18 Kevin
So and then I.
00:01:19 Kevin
I believe this this year on Sunday Taltis is they're probably doing something on Monday, but they always usually do like a like a.
00:01:27 Kevin
Like an Irish brunch.
00:01:31 Kevin
You know, whatever weekend day is convenient for.
00:01:33 Kevin
So and I believe this Sunday they're doing an Irish brunch and some of the musicians from beat City Music are gonna be down there.
00:01:39 Kevin
That's that's gonna be a good it's gonna be a good old time.
00:01:42 Kevin
There's the update there on on local news and events.
00:01:46 Kevin
The.
00:01:49 Kevin
The.
00:01:52 Kevin
Yeah. And then we don't really have a whole ton for.
00:01:55 Kevin
I know that the Common Council met last night to go over their first like big kind of budget budget meeting of the year.
00:02:03 Kevin
They went over a few department heads, things like that.
00:02:05 Kevin
Got a chance to catch it?
00:02:07 Kevin
I'm debating if we should go line by line on the budget on the show or not.
00:02:13 Kevin
So that'd be very insightful for the general public who don't understand how the budget works, how that stuff goes.
00:02:18 Kevin
Maybe we'll do a brief seminar on a budget, things like that.
00:02:22 Kevin
Yeah, I think.
00:02:25 Kevin
I think, but yeah, we got a brief update on the mayor's.
00:02:28 Kevin
So there's an e-mail scheduled to go out inviting all of the candidates, including the incumbent, for the mayor's race, the Alderman races and the.
00:02:40 Kevin
In the school board races.
00:02:44 Kevin
If they weren't scheduled to go out by e-mail at 8:00 AM this morning, they are going to be they're going to be scheduled.
00:02:54 Kevin
They're going to be scheduled for.
00:02:57 Kevin
They uh.
00:03:00 Kevin
They went out on Messenger. So that's, you know, that is part of the that is part of the downside to some of these because, you know, you get these, you know, like I was. I was surprised how many candidates actually had Facebook pages and stuff like that.
00:03:14 Kevin
There was one of them.
00:03:15 Kevin
I almost didn't know she was running because she had a.
00:03:17 Kevin
So groups don't show up typically in searches, but like because I had mutual friends with her, it managed to show up.
00:03:22 Kevin
Up so like the advertising gets limited.
00:03:24 Kevin
On it because they don't really. You know, Facebook's not really for advertising groups, but pages are more like businesses, events, things, you know, things you're trying to promote.
00:03:33 Kevin
But you know so.
00:03:35 Kevin
And then she didn't have an e-mail.
00:03:37 Kevin
The.
00:03:37 Kevin
There was no contact info or anything like that, so I had to send it.
00:03:40 Kevin
You know, I had to send some of those out via.
00:03:43 Kevin
Via messenger.
00:03:46 Kevin
Along with along with one of the mayoral candidates and one of the school board people.
00:03:51 Kevin
Couldn't even get a hold of one of the school board people.
00:03:53 Kevin
So one of the school board candidates running for the position of school board.
00:04:04 Kevin
Her she doesn't receive messages unless you're friends with her.
00:04:07 Kevin
Doesn't have a page for running for school board.
00:04:10 Kevin
You can't send her a message if you're a page, so it was one of those like. Well, how can I invite you to the show?
00:04:16 Kevin
Don't list your e-mail phone number. It just says to go.
00:04:19 Kevin
You in person for signatures, but you know so.
00:04:24 Kevin
I'm sure.
00:04:27 Kevin
I'm sure I'm sure someone will get her the message that that we're looking to reach out.
00:04:34 Kevin
So, but you know, other than that I mean.
00:04:39 Kevin
Because that is the issue. When you if you know if and that was the only thing that I could think of was like, you know, I'm pointing out, you know, if you're if you're running for school board, you have to be accessible to the public.
00:04:50 Kevin
If you're running for any elected position where we vote for you, you have to be accessible to the public and some people think, well, I have a private life like you do, but you are also now a public figure, which means that like when when the rules for.
00:05:04 Kevin
Libel, slander and all that stuff, you know like.
00:05:07 Kevin
Poking fun.
00:05:09 Kevin
Private Citizen is a little.
00:05:11 Kevin
Is A is a little harder, more restrictive than, like if you're an elected official, soon as you become an elected official.
00:05:16 Kevin
The gloves are off like so.
00:05:19 Kevin
And so the the rules are different. Is what I'm getting at. And so like you don't get to just hide your e-mail, you don't get to not take phone calls like that's part of the job.
00:05:27 Kevin
Know when you become an Alderman, you become the mayor. You become a school board member.
00:05:32 Kevin
Get to receive all sorts of calls all the time.
00:05:35 Kevin
It.
00:05:36 Kevin
Like you don't get to just shut it off.
00:05:39 Kevin
O that's like I don't know.
00:05:42 Kevin
I.
00:05:42 Kevin
I would hope that this person would change their privacy settings or at least have an e-mail that's offerable to people as soon as you know, because that's the other thing too, is like your personal your home address is published.
00:05:54 Kevin
Like there would be people that would show up at my house and hand deliver letters because I was an Alderman and they didn't like me or they were trying to get in touch with me or whatever. It's like, well, my phone, my phone number is the same through.
00:06:07 Kevin
So you can get me.
00:06:09 Kevin
Anywhere. But if you don't feel like calling and talk to me on the phone, you don't feel like sending me an e-mail because you don't think it's as personable as as a letter.
00:06:19 Kevin
They would physically come to my home, which you know and drop and drop notes on the door, you know, drop a letter here or there or, you know, my wife has received a few, like, handwritten letters that were hand delivered. Like, that's it.
00:06:32 Kevin
Part of the game, like that's, you know, the people are entitled to get in touch with you like any like. Obviously they don't get to just storm in during a public, you know.
00:06:39 Kevin
An executive session where you're talking about like, you know, litigation or something behind the scenes, but like they're entitled to get in touch with you.
00:06:46 Kevin
Like that's.
00:06:47 Kevin
And I would get emails at like 2:00 in the morning.
00:06:49 Kevin
I wouldn't reply to him at 2:00 in the morning, you know.
00:06:54 Kevin
You got to give a little grace, but yeah, no, I mean, that's why I would just, you know, I hope that mentality of, like, no, my privacy settings are as restricted as it can be.
00:07:01 Kevin
I hope you understand that like they don't get to be when you become a public official.
00:07:07 Kevin
So yeah, and but anyways, that that said, we.
00:07:14 Kevin
Yeah. So those emails got sent out. We've got, I don't know if you caught it the other day, but the the beautiful Miss Delamore was on the show Tuesday evening that got published.
00:07:14
Yes.
00:07:24 Kevin
That was two hours long, so if you were waiting for it to come out on YouTube, it didn't come out until probably midnight. By the time I finished processing.
00:07:32 Kevin
So, but I'm hoping that you did catch it.
00:07:33 Kevin
We should.
00:07:34 Kevin
I'll try to get that shared on her page.
00:07:36 Kevin
I know that we tagged her in it, but that was, you know, it was one of those.
00:07:42 Kevin
Who is one of those things that she's just she's just a great wealth of information. She's.
00:07:48 Kevin
She's she's just a wonderful person, so.
00:07:51 Kevin
If you didn't catch it, it's in the backlogs, it's in the files. You can go watch that.
00:07:55 Kevin
Can watch any other interview we've done with Dell.
00:07:57 Kevin
Believe we've had her on the.
00:07:59 Kevin
This will be her third time being on the show. We're testing out the zoom this weekend so we can start bringing in zoom guests.
00:08:06 Kevin
We'll be testing that out so we can bring in guests that maybe can't make it from far away or, you know, with all these different upcoming interviews with elected officials, some of them are not going.
00:08:15 Kevin
Be available.
00:08:17 Kevin
Is, you know, they just won't be.
00:08:20 Kevin
You know, they might not be available to come in person to the show and we want to be able to give them the option to be able to zoom in and so getting all that stuff together is going to be is gonna be fun working on that this.
00:08:31 Kevin
And then on Sunday.
00:08:33 Kevin
We've got.
00:08:35 Kevin
A local local rap legend coming on the show.
00:08:39 Kevin
That'll be fun.
00:08:41 Kevin
See what he has to say.
00:08:42 Kevin
We'll see what he's got coming up.
00:08:45 Kevin
And just get on one-on-one with.
00:08:47 Kevin
So we're just, you know, just plugging along here at the life 22 studios.
00:08:52 Kevin
Yeah.
00:08:54 Kevin
I'm just trying to think we got, you know, budget talks.
00:08:57 Kevin
Got the Alderman races.
00:09:00 Kevin
So.
00:09:01 Kevin
Yeah, looks like Ward 2's gonna be contested.
00:09:08 Kevin
Rachel rachelle.
00:09:11 Kevin
Anyways, I saw her Facebook not too long ago.
00:09:13 Kevin
How I had to send her a message.
00:09:15 Kevin
And now I'm drawing a blank.
00:09:16 Kevin
Her last name?
00:09:17 Kevin
I wasn't there long enough to, you know, I saw if I did my homework, whatever. But it wasn't published in the paper.
00:09:23 Kevin
Know what I?
00:09:23 Kevin
If it's, you know, and also that that's that's another.
00:09:27 Kevin
People think that like Facebook is the end all be all like Facebook is important.
00:09:30 Kevin
Social media is important. If I Google you and I can't find out anything about you, if I Google Ward, I race. Joe Carey's name shows up.
00:09:38 Kevin
Or then it shows like as you start scrolling down it gets to like past elections. If you type in Ward 4 like I come up and it's it's kind of funny.
00:09:48 Kevin
They don't talk about any of the the new newspaper articles as as much in their algorithms.
00:09:53 Kevin
I mean, you really got to get, but the newspapers do show up.
00:09:56 Kevin
So if you're, if you're not getting your name out to the paper, whether it is the the rag of The Times herald, or if it's the the new and upcoming Olean star.
00:10:05 Kevin
You know, or to us, you know, you really need to do exposes.
00:10:09 Kevin
You need to let people know because people don't know.
00:10:11 Kevin
I mean, you go door to door like that's.
00:10:13 Kevin
Door knocking is the number one way to get people out to vote and to get people to actually to sway a vote.
00:10:19 Kevin
I've had people that are like, I hate you for this and I'm like, you want to talk about it. And I will sit 30 minutes on someone's porch and talk with them about it.
00:10:26 Kevin
Be like, I think that you've misunderstood what happened.
00:10:30 Kevin
And then I will explain to him. And I've had people change.
00:10:33 Kevin
I've also had people say thank you for explaining it to.
00:10:35 Kevin
I'm still not gonna vote for you, but I appreciate you coming to my door and explaining my concerns and you know, hey.
00:10:42 Kevin
That's all you can do.
00:10:44 Kevin
So but going door to door is the number one way to get people out there to vote, reminding people to vote is another big.
00:10:51 Kevin
So having all those newspaper articles reminding people to go to the polls, so if you're out there doing like, oh, that person was great, and then all of a sudden.
00:10:58 Kevin
Election Day comes and goes for a lot of people and they don't remember to go and you're just like, oh, what do I do?
00:11:03 Kevin
You know I.
00:11:04 Kevin
I didn't win, like, well, yeah, it's because none of the people that said they're gonna vote for you actually went out and voted because they were like, oh, vote for you.
00:11:11 Kevin
But now you gotta get their *** to the.
00:11:12 Kevin
And that's that's a big thing. I used to drive people to the polls on Election Day like I would have, like people I would, you know, if there was somebody that was like in a Walker or whatever when they came to the door, I'd, you know, I'd go.
00:11:25 Kevin
Down.
00:11:26 Kevin
You know, at their kitchen table and drink coffee and and talk politics with them and you know, and there was a couple of them that, you know, they were having trouble getting around and you'd say, hey, do you need a ride to the polls like, oh, yeah, no.
00:11:38 Kevin
I were I mail in ballot, you know.
00:11:41 Kevin
Great mail and ballot.
00:11:43 Kevin
Do.
00:11:43 Kevin
Do it up. That's what it's there.
00:11:44 Kevin
It's because you physically can't go to the polls. You're you're, you're.
00:11:48 Kevin
You're bed bound, you know. And I had one lady that she had to take care of her husband. And, and I mean, he's since passed and she goes to the polls now on her own.
00:11:58 Kevin
She you know, she's like I I can't really leave him that often for long periods of time. So I don't want to like pepper it in with a, you know, a trip.
00:12:05 Kevin
She's like and he's can't go, so she mails in ballots for both of them, which?
00:12:09 Kevin
That makes sense.
00:12:10 Kevin
Like she's a caregiver to him and he can't go. So mail in both.
00:12:15 Kevin
Save yourself a trip. Boom.
00:12:18 Kevin
There's other people that are overseas, you know, defending our country.
00:12:23 Kevin
And you know so.
00:12:24 Kevin
But to each their.
00:12:25 Kevin
But then you here's what you here's the thing, you.
00:12:28 Kevin
You just you see, you see somebody having trouble and you say, hey, you need to ride the polls or would you?
00:12:33 Kevin
Need me to get you the information you need for an mail in ballot.
00:12:38 Kevin
You catch somebody and says, well, my wife isn't registered under this party or isn't, you know. And then you go do some research for these people and your wife's not registered to vote at all. Not in our county.
00:12:48 Kevin
Then you know 'cause. It's the only thing I really ever, you know, I could probably dig deep. Dig, dig, dig.
00:12:53 Kevin
But it's one of those, you know, I.
00:12:55 Kevin
You help people register to vote and people remember stuff like that, but then.
00:12:59 Kevin
Names, numbers, addresses, emails and then.
00:13:04 Kevin
End out a text message.
00:13:05 Kevin
It's election.
00:13:06 Kevin
Don't forget get out there. School board is very important for that because almost nobody goes to the school board elections. The budget goes up and up and up every year because the only people voting for them are the, you know, the teachers and the administrators, the people who.
00:13:20 Kevin
Are requesting the budget.
00:13:22 Kevin
As is, you know, and so it never.
00:13:24 Kevin
Never typically gets voted down so.
00:13:27 Kevin
And then the other people that vote for, like, oh, I always vote in the school board election because we need to help the kids and like, they think just voting yes to the budget means that they're helping the kids. And sometimes that stuff isn't like throwing more money.
00:13:37 Kevin
At problems doesn't solve the problem, but.
00:13:41 Kevin
So I encourage all of you to go watch last night's budget meeting talk. I saw that Vernon had Vernon Robinson junior had posted about it for Ward.
00:13:49 Kevin
His ward 6.
00:13:51 Kevin
He always votes very extensive notes into his Andrew's page.
00:13:55 Kevin
I think that's phenomenal for transparency.
00:13:59 Kevin
And yeah, he.
00:14:03 Kevin
So I I would encourage you to go find that and read that I hadn't read it yet.
00:14:07 Kevin
Just saw that it was up.
00:14:08 Kevin
I watched the meeting last night into this morning and then.
00:14:14 Kevin
Yeah. So.
00:14:15 Kevin
Why would encourage you to go watch that stay, stay abreast of local topics and we've got some exciting stuff coming up like I mentioned and we will catch you guys tomorrow.
00:14:24 Kevin
Let me take today's Friday, isn't.
00:14:26 Kevin
We will catch you guys next time on life 22 if you don't hear well, you'll hear from us over the weekend.
00:14:32 Kevin
Sure you.
00:14:32 Kevin
And you'll all be excited about it, right, because?
00:14:35 Kevin
You're going to be like, man, I didn't get to hear that beautiful blooming voice on Saturday morning, but at least I got to hear it Sunday.
00:14:41 Kevin
Afternoon. It's a good start to your week.
00:14:44 Kevin
All right.
00:14:45 Kevin
See you next time.
