00:00:06 Kevin
Good morning, gang.
00:00:07 Kevin
Kevin here, Live 22 Studios, and it is just a little before 6.30 A.m.
00:00:11 Kevin
It is the holiday week of Columbus Day in October.
00:00:17 Kevin
It's been a little chilly the last couple days, a little rainy, a little, you know, what you'd expect for an October.
00:00:22 Kevin
Some kind of, you know, weather that you kind of imagine, like if you were, you know, Christopher Columbus on a ship, right?
00:00:29 Kevin
Like you're
00:00:30 Kevin
sailing the ocean blue, like, yeah, that's sunny during the day.
00:00:32 Kevin
And then it's just kind of like miserable and rainy on certain days.
00:00:35 Kevin
And that's kind of what it's been a little chilly, you know, the big heat sink that is the ocean.
00:00:43 Kevin
But yeah, no, it is a it is a Monday morning.
00:00:46 Kevin
It's actually a Tuesday, but it's the Monday morning of our work week.
00:00:51 Kevin
And I know a lot of you guys have been kind of just
00:00:56 Kevin
out there and just ready to get back to work.
00:01:00 Kevin
If you didn't already go back to work yesterday, which a lot of us did, a lot of us worked all day yesterday.
00:01:05 Kevin
So kudos to you who keep on working.
00:01:06 Kevin
I want to check in and see how your sober October is doing.
00:01:12 Kevin
Let us know in the comments below.
00:01:14 Kevin
And I'm trying to think what else there is.
00:01:22 Kevin
There is a
00:01:24 Kevin
I guess a Luke Winky update for all of you out there who are concerned with that.
00:01:28 Kevin
Today is our 13,700th episode, each day being an episode of my life.
00:01:36 Kevin
So that's, for all those who don't know, that's where the day moniker and the episode title or the episode date stamp comes from.
00:01:44 Kevin
So that's kind of how we started the channel, was it was like, my life is kind of ridiculous, so there's a lot of **** going on, obviously.
00:01:52 Kevin
Most things in your life happen because of your own doing.
00:01:54 Kevin
Obviously, I'm a crazy, outlandish person.
00:01:57 Kevin
So crazy, outlandish **** happens to me all the time.
00:02:00 Kevin
So, speaking of crazy and outlandish, Luke Winky update, he is out.
00:02:07 Kevin
I believe he has, he may have court today.
00:02:11 Kevin
Little birdies on the wire have been telling me, you know, because they're all currently on the lam hiding from this person.
00:02:19 Kevin
But apparently he's, you know,
00:02:22 Kevin
Guest been released, but has like restrictions due to his curfew and regard, I think there's curfews in like a halfway house in Jamestown or something.
00:02:31 Kevin
So for all those who don't live in Jamestown, you're safe for now until he's wheels up.
00:02:42 Kevin
So that said, I'm trying to think.
00:02:45 Kevin
Oh, so today's podcast, I kind of want to get into, I want to do like a Monday morning update.
00:02:51 Kevin
and which we did, we covered it.
00:02:54 Kevin
But I want to do it.
00:02:56 Kevin
I was thinking about, I woke up this morning thinking about audacity, the term audacity.
00:03:04 Kevin
And we need more people with audacity, that gumption to stand up and just kind of like tell people what they think or not back down to people that are menacing and threatening.
00:03:19 Kevin
somebody tries to overbear their opinion on you with the fact that you might be timid and not audastic and not have, the testicular fortitude, as I like to use, to stand your ground.
00:03:33 Kevin
And so today's little like excerpt was just like a shout out to all the people that have been audastic lately and, you know, have been building their audacity in being able to better our community for it.
00:03:49 Kevin
So the first shout out I'm going to give to my wife and my neighbor, Amy, and my other neighbor, Emma, who have been on the front lines of the neighborhood watch that we put into place a few months ago.
00:04:07 Kevin
I've been helping where I can, obviously, like I work a lot.
00:04:10 Kevin
And so I'm able to kind of like help
00:04:14 Kevin
help bankroll them with, megaphones and body cams and things like that.
00:04:19 Kevin
But, for the most part, they've been leading the charge, boots on the ground, and nothing.
00:04:23 Kevin
There's no substitute for that.
00:04:25 Kevin
So, shout out to them.
00:04:28 Kevin
They've been out there late nights and being audastic.
00:04:32 Kevin
So, I know my wife leads the charge to where the neighbor's like, Oh, gee, did she just do that?
00:04:38 Kevin
She'll call out drug addicts for going into drug houses.
00:04:41 Kevin
She will call out
00:04:43 Kevin
she will she'll she'll get on the horn with spotlighters to spotlight different neighborhoods that she receives via message for different neighborhoods.
00:04:55 Kevin
So she's she hasn't been like, you know, she didn't create the spotlighting, but once once, you know, once it started happening, like a little network started to get formed.
00:05:07 Kevin
So just to kind of sunshine's the best disinfectant and it's been it's kind of been great.
00:05:12 Kevin
So
00:05:14 Kevin
calling out different people.
00:05:15 Kevin
She writes down names and numbers, but be to the audastic point, right?
00:05:20 Kevin
Like the, instead of just the watchful eye of neighborhood watch, just letting them know that like, hey, we also won't stand for this.
00:05:28 Kevin
And so, and I woke up this morning thinking like, man, my wife watched the football game on the front porch.
00:05:33 Kevin
My mom's in town visiting.
00:05:35 Kevin
They both watched the football game.
00:05:37 Kevin
I went to bed early so I could get up.
00:05:39 Kevin
I have work.
00:05:39 Kevin
I wanted to squeeze in a podcast.
00:05:41 Kevin
And
00:05:42 Kevin
I get a little bit of paperwork and some bills to pay.
00:05:44 Kevin
Still yet before I have to get the kids ready for school.
00:05:50 Kevin
But it's one of those, they were on the front porch and it wasn't to do neighborhood watch type stuff.
00:05:54 Kevin
We've had a record low number of like garbage on the street, including needles.
00:06:00 Kevin
Needles are at an all-time low in our neighborhood.
00:06:02 Kevin
Usually we have to go around once a week and like inspect sidewalks within like a block radius.
00:06:07 Kevin
for needles that can poke kids and have poked kids in our neighborhood.
00:06:11 Kevin
And that's what is the biggest issue.
00:06:13 Kevin
Thank God it's been none of my kids.
00:06:15 Kevin
It's not been, you know what I mean?
00:06:15 Kevin
It's just, but it's still like, you know, there's people and they, you know, their kids.
00:06:20 Kevin
chase behind them.
00:06:21 Kevin
And kids like to run around without shoes on.
00:06:22 Kevin
You know what I mean?
00:06:23 Kevin
It's like, okay, you put shoes on, but needles are pokey metal.
00:06:26 Kevin
Like they can penetrate skin, they can penetrate clothing, they can penetrate most gloves.
00:06:30 Kevin
So why couldn't they penetrate the thin foam shoe of a kid's sole of their shoe?
00:06:36 Kevin
You know?
00:06:38 Kevin
So it's one of those.
00:06:40 Kevin
Kids like to pick up shiny things.
00:06:42 Kevin
They shine, they glimmer in the sunlight, you know?
00:06:44 Kevin
And so it's one of those that we just, we,
00:06:50 Kevin
It irks me that we have to do it, but at the same time, like it's our neighborhood.
00:06:53 Kevin
It's the things that cause you problem in this world.
00:06:58 Kevin
If you have an issue with something, that means that it's your problem.
00:07:01 Kevin
And so we have an issue with the drug addicts in our neighborhood that makes it our problem.
00:07:05 Kevin
Yes, a lot of the neighbors wish that the government would do more.
00:07:08 Kevin
We wish that the cops could do more.
00:07:11 Kevin
We don't, I don't blame the cops personally.
00:07:13 Kevin
It's not their fault.
00:07:14 Kevin
Their hands are tied by New York State.
00:07:15 Kevin
New York State doesn't want drug addicts out of jail because if they're in jail, they can't vote for them.
00:07:20 Kevin
So, you know, the politicians.
00:07:26 Kevin
So it's one of those.
00:07:27 Kevin
But that audastic behavior has been going great because it's just been an all-time low.
00:07:35 Kevin
And I know the weather's getting colder, but it hasn't been that cold.
00:07:38 Kevin
It hasn't been that cold.
00:07:39 Kevin
Like, this is like a new breed of drug addict that just
00:07:43 Kevin
hasn't died off in its first winter yet.
00:07:46 Kevin
Right.
00:07:48 Kevin
Like newborn woodland creatures, like they just, they're born in the spring and they kind of try to make it through without getting eaten by predators.
00:07:57 Kevin
And one of the first winter hits and like 40% of them die.
00:08:00 Kevin
I doubt that's the case.
00:08:02 Kevin
I'm sure, a lot of the faces, according to some of the neighbors, have been around since they were kids.
00:08:11 Kevin
Excuse me.
00:08:15 Kevin
So, yeah, a lot of the...
00:08:19 Kevin
There's always two.
00:08:21 Kevin
There's always at least two.
00:08:23 Kevin
Anyways,
00:08:25 Kevin
We've, no, there's just, they're regulars.
00:08:29 Kevin
They're regulars.
00:08:30 Kevin
There's no way that, you know, a lot of them have been doing drugs for 40 years, 20 years at least.
00:08:36 Kevin
This ain't their first winner in Western New York.
00:08:38 Kevin
And so this is just not, you know, it's odd.
00:08:42 Kevin
Maybe it's just timing, I suppose.
00:08:44 Kevin
Or the audacity of the neighbors and the neighborhood watch.
00:08:50 Kevin
So shout out to them.
00:08:55 Kevin
And a shout out to Mr.
00:08:58 Kevin
Robert Kennedy.
00:09:00 Kevin
His audacity and take charge attitude to go and tackle things on the *****.
00:09:07 Kevin
I don't always agree with what Rob posts about online.
00:09:11 Kevin
I don't agree with some of the people that he attacks and some of his tactics, but I do have to, I'm sure our politics probably are in line.
00:09:18 Kevin
But
00:09:19 Kevin
I do have to agree with Rob and give him some kudos on the way that he has cleaned up the *****.
00:09:26 Kevin
And I know I've heard council members in the council meetings that I've listened to where he's spoken and kind of given them just an impromptu update at the public comment section and how, like normally they don't break rank and, you know, comment on
00:09:41 Kevin
or reply to comments on the public comment.
00:09:44 Kevin
But, the council president, Vernon Robinson, had mentioned in the last meeting he, or the last one that I had seen, I'm 2 meetings behind.
00:09:51 Kevin
No, I'm 1 meeting behind.
00:09:54 Kevin
Yeah, I'm watching the Charter Commission meeting.
00:09:57 Kevin
Anyways, the last one that I had seen, he broke rank and he even mentioned, he's like, I don't like to break rank or, you know, but I do want to, you know,
00:10:11 Kevin
commendate, Mr.
00:10:14 Kevin
Kennedy for his work and effort.
00:10:15 Kevin
And so, that means a lot.
00:10:17 Kevin
And it means a lot to the rest of us that he's kind of orchestrating these efforts to go down and just clean up the *****.
00:10:23 Kevin
And his momentum is forcing, you know, like, you know, because sometimes like people, people ask stuff for the city all the time.
00:10:30 Kevin
So like people get mad, like, well, the city's not giving me garbage bags.
00:10:33 Kevin
The city's not giving me this.
00:10:34 Kevin
The city's not giving me this.
00:10:35 Kevin
Well, yeah, because like, you know how many people, if they just walked in and said, hey, I need garbage bags.
00:10:38 Kevin
I'm going to go clean up the streets.
00:10:40 Kevin
they just, a lot of people are just really just, they would just take those garbage bags and go home.
00:10:45 Kevin
And so, as a city, you don't just give out, stuff willy-nilly.
00:10:51 Kevin
And so I can understand a little bit of hesitancy from them, but then all of a sudden you make enough commotion.
00:10:56 Kevin
You get enough local business to say, yeah, you're gonna clean up the *****.
00:10:59 Kevin
Yeah, you know what I mean?
00:11:01 Kevin
And then you start posting things on Facebook and making it public.
00:11:03 Kevin
And like I said, sunshine's the best disinfectant.
00:11:06 Kevin
And you get out there and you start doing that.
00:11:07 Kevin
And then you're going to get the government to kind of back behind you.
00:11:10 Kevin
But it takes the local figures, you know, the Worth W.
00:11:14 Kevin
Smith who donated gloves and the, you know, the union sales that usually donates garbage bags.
00:11:19 Kevin
And I think Worth W.
00:11:20 Kevin
Smith may have also donated garbage bags.
00:11:22 Kevin
We offered to donate garbage bags and or dispose of the garbage.
00:11:26 Kevin
And then before we could even get there, the city, the city offered, they said, just, pile it up on the ***** and one of our divisions will come and get it kind of thing.
00:11:36 Kevin
And so it's like, it's nice to see when you, but it all started with that audacity to clean up the messes.
00:11:43 Kevin
You know what I mean?
00:11:44 Kevin
Target your problem where it starts, where it is.
00:11:47 Kevin
Don't just, you know, alleviate it, right?
00:11:49 Kevin
Like, oh, the issue is the drug addict.
00:11:53 Kevin
Like, well, I mean, the issue is drugs.
00:11:55 Kevin
That's really like, because if drug addicts just kind of wandered around like, fruit flies, and they just weren't in my kitchen, it wouldn't be a big deal.
00:12:04 Kevin
The problem is I have to address the real problem, which is like the fact that there's, some sort of food for them to eat, like this thing in my sink that's causing all the fruit flies, and that's the drugs.
00:12:15 Kevin
And the drugs have like, you know, the ability to turn my kids into a fruit fly, you know, and the drugs have the ability to
00:12:21 Kevin
poke my kids and cause a lot of medical problems and turn them into zombies.
00:12:25 Kevin
And it can turn my fellow neighbors into zombies.
00:12:28 Kevin
And so it's like, you got to really target the drugs.
00:12:31 Kevin
And it's not like, well, we just need, we need mental health for the drug addicts.
00:12:35 Kevin
It's like, I still don't think you're addressing the real problem here.
00:12:39 Kevin
The root problem is something moral and in the fabric of our society that's collapsing.
00:12:44 Kevin
And I don't know how you fix it.
00:12:46 Kevin
I kind of do.
00:12:47 Kevin
You know what I mean?
00:12:48 Kevin
You start strengthening the family, you start strengthening social bonds, camaraderie amongst neighbors.
00:12:54 Kevin
I got to give out to, you know, got to go back to that.
00:12:58 Kevin
And then religion, people don't have anything to believe in anymore.
00:13:01 Kevin
So why would they care?
00:13:03 Kevin
Like, what's the purpose?
00:13:04 Kevin
You know, we've all become nihilistic and, you know, like, what's, you know, what does this life mean anyways, man?
00:13:10 Kevin
I'm just going to be 1 worm child in 100 years, 50 years, 20 years if you're on drugs.
00:13:15 Kevin
You know, and it's like,
00:13:17 Kevin
That's part of it.
00:13:18 Kevin
But, when you start building momentum to start targeting the issue, like, all right, so we have an issue with homelessness.
00:13:23 Kevin
All right, well, no homeless encampments, sorry.
00:13:26 Kevin
You know, and the cops have their hands tied to a degree.
00:13:29 Kevin
There's a couple of them that are, you know, a little loose cannon, which we need more of.
00:13:33 Kevin
We need more cops that are willing to, you know, take on, like, well, is that how we normally do things?
00:13:39 Kevin
Is that, I wouldn't want to get in trouble.
00:13:41 Kevin
It's like, no, like, sometimes it's, you know,
00:13:44 Kevin
You're not just like beating down somebody.
00:13:46 Kevin
You're not like doing something egregious.
00:13:49 Kevin
You know, you do something and you get your wrist slapped.
00:13:51 Kevin
That's it.
00:13:52 Kevin
Like, oh, that's it.
00:13:56 Kevin
Like, you just, it's super easy.
00:13:58 Kevin
You just like, hey, you know, there's not, we're not supposed to be any homeless people here.
00:14:01 Kevin
You're not allowed to camp in the, by the *****.
00:14:03 Kevin
The Army Corps of Engineers is property.
00:14:07 Kevin
The city's like a steward for policing it.
00:14:09 Kevin
You know what I mean?
00:14:10 Kevin
Like, just take care of it.
00:14:12 Kevin
And so
00:14:14 Kevin
These are the different things that we deal with, but it all starts with that audacity.
00:14:17 Kevin
So the audacity of the neighborhood watch, the audacity of Robert Kennedy to go down there and just clear it out.
00:14:24 Kevin
It all starts there.
00:14:25 Kevin
And having that strength, that will to do what's right, regardless of somebody says, oh, you can't move somebody's stuff.
00:14:33 Kevin
What if you get in trouble?
00:14:34 Kevin
Like, who cares?
00:14:35 Kevin
What if I get in trouble?
00:14:36 Kevin
Okay, arrest me for cleaning up garbage around the river.
00:14:41 Kevin
Arrest me for cleaning garbage up off the *****.
00:14:43 Kevin
Arrest me for stopping, you know, oh, well, it's somebody's personal property.
00:14:47 Kevin
Well, it shouldn't have been left out in the middle of nowhere.
00:14:49 Kevin
Oh, well, that's where they live.
00:14:50 Kevin
Like, no, they don't live there.
00:14:51 Kevin
They don't own the property.
00:14:52 Kevin
They don't rent the property.
00:14:53 Kevin
They don't have permission to be there.
00:14:55 Kevin
It's assumed to be abandoned.
00:14:58 Kevin
Well, they're currently in the tent.
00:14:59 Kevin
Like, sorry, unless you're bubble boy and this thing is movable, get mosey in.
00:15:06 Kevin
And it takes that kind of audacity to do it.
00:15:10 Kevin
And there's too many people that pussyfoot around issues and they don't want to touch it and they don't want to, or they don't want to be bothered by it.
00:15:16 Kevin
And there's other people that have extra free time in their day and have that audacity.
00:15:23 Kevin
And they say, hey, I'm going to do what's right.
00:15:26 Kevin
And so kudos to Rob, kudos to my wife, kudos to the neighbors, Amy, Emma, any other neighbors in our Neighborhood Watch group.
00:15:33 Kevin
You can find us on Facebook at Where the Sirens Aren't.
00:15:39 Kevin
And we're in the trenches.
00:15:44 Kevin
And we'll see you guys probably tomorrow.
00:15:49 Kevin
We'll see you guys tomorrow on Life 22.
